From outdoor activities to cultural events to fitness and fun,
Fostoria offers a variety of recreational opportunities in and
around town.
Parks and Pools
Fostoria has five city parks that encompass a total of 280
acres. The parks include: Portage, Gray, Community Water Park,
City Park, Jackson and Meadowlark. All offer playground
equipment, field lighting and shelter houses. Meadowlark Park
contains nine baseball and softball diamonds, tennis courts and
an amphitheatre. Portage Park has a fitness trail and hills for
winter sledding. The Water Park includes a large water slide, a
large outdoor pool, an outdoor wading pool and bath house.
In addition, the Parks and
Recreation Department provides scheduled activities and events
for people of all ages, boosting citizen interest and
involvement in parks and outdoor recreation.
Reservoirs
Six reservoirs provide a total of 2 billion gallons of water for
Fostoria. Fishing is allowed at all reservoirs. Boat launch
facilities, picnic areas, parking and walking trails are also
available at the reservoirs.
Family and Youth
Activities
The Geary Family YMCA
offers a broad range of fun and fitness for the entire family:
indoor swimming, track, gymnasium, handball, racquetball,
squash, basketball, floor hockey, outdoor soccer and flag
football, judo, volleyball, aerobics and weight training. The
city also offers organized adult sports.
Golf Courses
Four 18-hole golf courses are located within a few minutes of
Fostoria, and there are 17 golf courses within a 15 minute drive
of the city.
Cultural Recreation
Fostoria is home to the outdoor summer concerts and cultural
performances that take place at the Wainwright Amphitheater,
located in Meadowlark Park.
In the city are the
Fostoria Glass Heritage
Gallery and the Fostoria Area Historical Museum.
The city also offers numerous
holiday festivals and seasonal parades.
Several musical groups are based
in and perform in Fostoria, including the Fostoria Community
Band and Barbershoppers.
